Details

September-December: Theory Term
Hours: 1 Hour a week between 5-8pm to be discussed with successful applicant.

Music Director will work with students to build healthy vocal technique, and an understanding of harmony and basic music theory in preparation for the show term which runs January-June. You will work in connection with the Director to choose a musical that best fits your students.

During the rehearsal term hours increase to provide more time working with students as they prepare their show.

Please read the following description carefully. If this sounds like you send your resume to stefanie@thestagenewwest.ca.

  • Must have some experience in music direction. You do not need to have years and years worth, but you should be aware of the demands and prepared to put in any amount of time outside of the class hours that will ensure you and your students share a successful production.
  • Must be available the week of June 3-10, 2019. Detailed production schedule to be available in September.
  • Love working with youth (not just kinda sorta like them) (Ages 11-14)
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills to be able to work with students and their parents
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must, must, must have a passion for teaching
  • Must respect youth actors and youth theatre as you would any other project. Must believe that the future performing artists are deserving of the best possible education and opportunity.
  • Willing to go above and beyond to ensure that you are supporting your show in every way you can. This could include taking on other small tasks for your show like sourcing costumes/set/props etc. While much of this will be taken care of, it is expected that when the show is in need of support, the music director will be willing to lend the production team a hand when possible. This could also mean providing additional rehearsals for your students at mutually convenient times for staff and students.
  • Interested in becoming part of our faculty family (we’re a bit nutty but a lot of fun) and have a willingness to participate in studio and community events where we provide face painting, craft tables or photo booths to promote our classes and fulfill our community service mandate.
  • Have a resume outlining previous work experience with youth, music director and performance resume
  • Will provide references
  • CPR Certification an asset
  • Will agree to a criminal records check
  • Must have reliable access to a vehicle or transit
